EDUCATIONAL THERAPY
OUR MISSION
At Modern Class, we believe every student deserves an approach to learning that honors how they think, process, and grow. Our educational therapy services are designed to support students with learning differences by strengthening foundational skills and helping them develop tools for long-term academic success.

OUR APPROACH
We use a range of evidence-based, multisensory programs that are thoughtfully individualized to remediate each student’s unique learning needs. We pull from trusted approaches including Orton-Gillingham, Visualizing & Verbalizing, Framing Your Thoughts, TouchMath, Cogmed, SMARTS, and more!

OUR TEAM
Our educational therapists are all highly trained members of The Association of Educational Therapists (AET). Their professional experience in education and psychology allows for them to incorporate a holistic approach for each student. Our goal is for our students to become independent and confident learners who understand their learning profiles.

THE STEPS

Getting to
Know You

Creating a Thoughtful Plan
Using our assessments along with feedback from neuropsychological evaluations (when available) and schools, we develop an individualized treatment plan outlining targeted interventions, programs, goals, and resources.

FAQS
What Is Educational Therapy?
Educational therapy is a highly individualized approach that addresses the root causes of learning challenges by strengthening underlying processing skills students can apply across all academic areas. It is especially helpful for students who are working hard but still feel frustrated or stuck. Through targeted intervention and consistent support, educational therapy helps students understand how they learn- so they can learn more effectively and with confidence!
What is an educational therapist?
An educational therapist is a highly trained educator who specializes in multisensory learning support for students with learning differences. At Modern Class, our educational therapists are members of the Association of Educational Therapists (AET) and have met the highest standards of professional preparation and experience. They hold an educational therapy certificate, have completed required supervision hours, and maintain ongoing professional development each year to remain active members of the association.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AN EDUCATIONAL THERAPIST AND A TUTOR?
A tutor focuses on teaching a specific subject matter. A tutor will reteach challenging material in a way that is easy for the sutdent to understand by focusing on homework assignment, classwork, and upcoming tests/projects. An educational therapist's focus is much broader. ETs collaborate with all the significant people involved in the student's learning journey. They focus not only on remediation, but also on building underlying skills to help students become efficient lifelong learners. An ET has extensive training, sets goals, and develops a treatment plan. ET's also conduct assessments and provide case management.
We haven’t done a neuropsychological evaluation- how do I know if my child needs educational therapy?
We offer assessments that include screeners for dyslexia and other processing differences, giving us clear insight into what may be impacting your child’s learning and helping guide the most effective support-whether that be educational therapy or tutoring.
Can you provide a diagnosis or school accommodations?
Educational therapists do not diagnose and are not able to provide formal school accommodations. However, Modern Class has a strong partnership with Stein Associates (link to his website: https://www.steinpsych.com/) , a team of licensed psychologists who provide comprehensive evaluations for school-aged children, adolescents, and young adults. Their clinicians work closely with our educational professionals to create a seamless continuum of care. For more information about what a neuropsychological evaluation includes, please see the video below.
HOW LONG IS THE EDUCATIONAL THERAPY TREATMENT?
The length of educational therapy varies based on each student’s needs, goals, and progress. Our ultimate goal is to help students build the foundational skills they need to succeed independently across academic settings—so they can confidently “graduate” from educational therapy.
